a) octave V3.01 is a only bug-fix release ov V3.0.0 without new
functionality, so it should be definitively better
b) the toolbox-packages of octave are not in the ubuntu-repository, they
have to be downloaded from the octaves project homepage where they are

xrender_unmanage_screen in src/compositor/compositor-xrender.c always
calls meta_screen_unset_cm_selection which calls XSetSelectionOwner with

I had the problem re-occur with todays upgrade to 2.4.16.18. despite the
fact /etc/blkid.tab had the correct entries. This led me to investigate
the matter in more detail. I think I SOLVED it as a non-bug.
Here is what I found
I noticed that the kopt and groot options in my /boot/grub/menu.lst
