The pulseaudio problem should nothing have to do with the -intel driver issue.
Maybe there is a high cpu usage which indirectly effects it. Pidgin uses
pulseaudio afaik so it is possible that the problems with Pidgin is a result of
problem with pa. You can easily test it by disabling pulseaudio

I found the source of the problem. I don't know why but I had accidentally a
recursive directory on a fat32 partition (means DIR1-DIR2-DIR1-DIR2...,
depth 10, no symbolic link).
After deleting this directory the installer went fine.

I had the same problem with an X61. Upgrading the kernel to 2.6.26-rc8
from git solved the problem.

When I click on the menu for synaptic an icon (starting administrative
application) shows on the panel with the other open programs as if it is
attempting to run then the icon disappears and nothing more happens
(satellite modem connection see below). I can normally repeat this
several times.
I have the same problem here,
MSI P35 Mainboard, dualcore, radeon hd3650, 4gb ram.

- It doesn't work if I logon with NoMachine client
- It doesn't work if I logon via ssh and forwarding X to my Window
Pidgin team have released 2.4.3, which fixes this issue.
Need update the pidgin package.

I think this wouldn't cause really any harm...but having a sane
buildsystem makes sense to me.
I'm going to ack this, under the following circumstancas:
First, please check if any of the rdepends of libsoundtouch1c2 will
still compile with this check:

The cursor problem might be a duplicate of Bug 198521.
