This is not a firefox bug since it happens on opera as well and they
have different engines and code base. moved task to flash instead. What

I just had a similar sounding problem on Hardy. I also had to close
evolution from a terminal. I seem to have fixed it (for me at least) by
starting it in offline mode from the terminal
$ evolution --offline
This was fine and when I then went online it synchronised fine as well.
For
Thanks Daniel, I already solved the problem using this:
I went in the /lib/modules/2.6.24-xxx/modules.alias and I commented out
the first two occurrences of AES that link to padlock and geode
hardware.
This solved the problem with my sound card (AD1888) and my Cisco 340
wireless worked too as
Wireless worked great a few months ago in Hardy. I haven't used wireless
in a while- just tried it yesterday and found I had the same problem as
the orig post. Tried a few fixes found in other dark corners of the web,
including replacing network-manager with WiCD and deleting udev's 70
On my system:
1) The login sound doesn't play either.
2a) It started only *after* an upgrade of pulseaudio (currently
0.9.10-2ubuntu9.3).
2b) As far as I can tell, it didn't start *right* after that upgrade, so
the upgrade may or may not have had anything to do with triggering the
situation.
