I just realized, that it works after a suspend/resume. Getting there, I could
see some usplash-messages (could not use 1152x982 something, using 1124x768
instead), so maybe it's related to usplash.

had done a local install to correct an issue I was having with the
places menu. I thought I had done a checkinstall, but either I did and

I was using the hd-media vmlinuz and initrd.gz due to bug 355376, and
the fact that the USB stick guide seems to suggest that the hd-media
installer is required to use the alternate install ISO from USB.
Since bug 355376 is fixed and Arnaud says that the ISO install works
perfectly, I expect that
