I am experiencing what seems like the same issue with the latest build
of 9.04 with all updates. Rhythmbox with pulseaudio will hang the system
and go quiet. Everything is slow/unresponsive. After several minutes,
rhythmbox will resume and continue playing. Sometimes this takes 10-15
minutes.
Same issue here too, with Hardy, kernel 2.6.24-23-generic #1 SMP Wed Apr
1 21:47:28 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux, Gimp 2.4.6.
After loading the program, the first time I Save as always works fine.
It's after I save one file, and try to Save as again that I get the
blank file chooser dialogue.

$ sudo modprobe applesmc
$ echo 150 | sudo tee
/sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness

I'm having the same problem with Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit. There are a couple
workarounds:
1. Disable autorepeat in System-Preferences-Keyboard.
2. Run a script which contains the command xset r off.
