I've got a similar issue with my mythbuntu (jaunty) box. At startup the
usplash freezes at about 10 % without displaying that it is doing a
fsck. After 20 minutes I switched to console 8 to see what's up. fsck
stood at 63 %. After a while it finished without showing where it went
from 63 % to 100

Perhaps the VM is growing the image by using temp files?
I noticed lockup on checking out a clean subversion tree, which should
only have involved file creation.
Oh well, changing kernels is a decent workaround.

Confirming this bug with ubuntu hardy and 3.0.10+nobinonly-
0ubuntu0.8.04.1 and some pages, the last one where firefox crashed was
on the page at the end of an account creation trying to print the
summary, and before sending the changes - unfortunately I cannot provide

I can't reproduce any problem here on karmic without Stephan's init
script change; I'm going to revert this change at the next sync/merge,
rather than carrying it forward.
