The problem manifests during sustained downloads from the internet, e.g.
downloading an Ubuntu CD image, or running a large update with update-
manager. The result is that the disk goes read-only without warning,
and the trace included

Probably because ext4 is optional file system. I believe it is noted in
Release Notes for Jaunty that ext4 has been calling problems...it's not
like people are forced to use it.

Thanks for your report. This has definitely nothing to do with the
linux-wlan-ng package. If you are using a proprietary driver
(SystemAdministrationHardware Drivers is mostly for those) it is a
likely a bug in that driver.

I got the sound working in Karmic by installing gnome-alsa mixer. Sound
did not work at all before doing that.
Sound works now, tone control works great, volume really sucks canal
water.
Compared to volume in Jaunty the max volume is under 25%.

After the upgrade to 9.04 most of the times I switch to other TTY it's
ok . until I try to go back to TTY7 ( where is the first X ) When I
try sometimes it's ok but this is rare. Most times it crashes.
