I experience the printing problems described above while using 2.6.28-11
(the initial default boot option for Ubuntu 9.04 and newer versions of
the kernel). I happened to try 2.6.27-11 just to see what would happen.

Could you provide some instructions to reproduce this?
For instance, did you open the video clip by clicking it, or from the
menus within Totem?
Also, if possible, could you provide info about the file path and perhaps also
the filename?
(Could it for instance be caused by special characters?)

It could be that the other user somehow saved his session with his
panels disappeared but didn't save it every time he restored the panels.
Unfortunately the bug is from 2006 so I don't think asking is going to
provide the answer, so I'm still not sure what to do here.
