Before the long HDD activity starts, the fan (and maybe other things, but
cannot check) gets turned off. The display stays on during that time but is
frozen i.e. does not get updated.

The patch doesn't change any source code, it only adds libxcomposite-dev,

Since /usr/bin/gdialog is only a link to /usr/bin/gdialog2 I've delted
the link and put some postinst script to create the link if
/usr/bin/gdialog doesn't allready exists.
I think it should fix the problem. But it's my first fixed debian
archive... so... just have a look at it before useing :)

Same problem with a Studio 1737. I'll try to collect informations but
the Suspend test (v8.0) can't go back from resume (same problem I'd like
to see fixed).

Discovered something rather interesting/confusing...
First I did a rebuild of php5, modifying libapache2-mod-php5.postinst to
make it abort (exit 1) just before it had time to run its invoke-rc.d
apache2 force-reload.
Turned out that after installation the new packages, and having

I use an Sony Vaio SZ2M-B, which is a 13 subnotebook. As you may think I hear
a pop due to power saving, which doesn't annoy me. What annoys me is that
through the acpi-driver my notebook has the capability to power down the hole
audio device, which saves even MORE power

manual intervention, I found the following issue with the rrdtool
package, which prevents a smooth import into Launchpad Rosetta and
causes the Ubuntu Translation

uses for it's
Went back to Intrepid.
In doing so, I also tried booting from the live CD only a couple of
times consecutively. Same issue. I was thinking to go to a 100% Ubuntu
install at some point (no Windows), but with this kind of issue I don't
think I can risk it!

Ubuntu messes up my video card
I've tried getting the VESA driver to work with my laptop, but I only
get an error message from X stating: Screen(s) found, but none have a
usable configuration. The symptoms are the same as those reported in
