I am having the same issue but on Jaunty, 2.6.28-14-generic, pulseaudio
1:0.9.14-0ubuntu20.2
gnome-settings-daemon 2.26.1-0ubuntu2.
XF86AudioRaise/LowerVolume are recognized but are not having any audible
effect, nor affecting any mixer control. Pause/Play and Prev and Next
work fine though.

No, I am not using desktop effects.
Also, I tried to let xord autodetect my display, but when it went into
low graphics mode, and I clicked on autodetect settings, it just re-
popped up the box again. In the end, I had to put the original
xorg.conf file back. Here is teh file.

I can also confirm. I have mine set to turn on screensaver after 5
minutes and turn off the monitor after 15 minutes. Both were working

I have a very similar issue affect me too.
The notify-osd works fine (volume, network, IM, etc ) except for brightness~
When I am changing the brightness the original gnome notification show up
instead.
I didn't have this problem when I was testing on Karmic Alpha3 and Jaunty.

Yeah, isn't 8.04 an LTS edition?
My 8.04 Desktop machine suffers from this problem. I think I got it
fixed by adding the command to assemble the arrays degraded to the
initramfs 'local' script, but finding what needed to be done was a real
PITA and I'm sure others will continue to hit this
I did an upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic yesterday and it has stopped my
software RAID from working and I can't boot. I have 2 md devices
(/dev/md0 and /dev/md1). After about 30s it drops me to a busybox
prompt. My /dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 partitions are there but when I try
to re-assemble the array

Maybe I'm just crazy here, but I just installed Karmic alpha 4 and when
I add the Network Management widget to my desktop or panel, I just get a
useless box that tells me Network Management is unstable and to use
knetworkmanager instead. Did something change in the past day and half?

I STRONGLY disagree with this being described as a trivial error. At
the present time I am unable to mount any windows shares on my Ubuntu
9.04 machine because of this issue and that's a show stopper over here.
Simply waiting or double-clicking again does not clear the error.

My laptop also shows the plug, with latest updates as of August 15th,
2009 (Karmic x64).
In the power settings, there is no tab for when running on battery as
