Timo's fix so far seems to have made that problem go away, but it
introduced the problem that I can no longer middle-click by clicking
both buttons. I've lost middle-click functionality (and someone else
pointed out that you lose touchpad-scroll, but I wasn't using that).

I have had the same problem, but after installing virtualbox-ose-
guest-x11 as Felix proposed, it works again. I have also enabled 3D
acceleration in VirtualBox' settings for my virtual machine, but I don't
know if that is necessary.

deteriorate with time and use, especially when there is no battery
management by way of the BIOS (unfortunately the kernel tp_smapi module
is the only one I'm aware of under Linux, which gives me the option to

I tried all three kernels you built.
I am not sure which logs to look at, but here's what I did:
1. boot up with one of the kernels
2. log in (in gnome)
3. Go to System-Preferences-Display
and then all I see is a black screen with half of the cursor to the far
right.

then just quits. The monitor light chandes to amber as if to suggest no
display but the machine processor fan is still going .

settings in xorg.conf. My ATI card (too old now for fglrx) using the
radeon driver does offer some configuration options.

This is happening for me, too. The behaviour seems to be pretty
consistently that:
a) When I am running on battery power with reasonable energy, gnome-
power-manager does not recognize that I am on battery. This is confirmed
because when I change the power management settings to always show
icon,
I should add that I am running Lucid Lynx with all packages updated.
