Unfortunately it has not solved the problem. After a reboot, although
the directory /var/run/proftpd does now exist, it is empty and the
proftpd service is not running.

The theme was Wildbush. When I choose it, xfce seems to close and
return to the login screen. When I try to login again it is impossible,
because the Theme makes it crash again.
My first solution was to delete the xfce settings directory in my /home.
Then it is working again.

I have an Acer 5532 and get the same error message while booting (acer-
wmi: Unable to detect available WMID devices). However booting is very
fast, so it's just an aesthetic problem for me. Seeing the bootscreen
during whole boot procedure would be nice.

Same thing happened to me, but all the mail is still in the file in my
case ... it's just no longer *listed* by evolution.
