Most curious: I found out that the unable to enumerate messages stop and the device is recognized a lot quicker if I'm on a VT. It takes only seconds to a few minutes, compared to being in X, where I couldn't yet get it to work. It's recognised as full speed (USB 1.1) though. Not optimal.
