UPDATE: Upon purchasing this laptop, I immediately wiped the HD and
installed a fresh version of Win7, which worked fine. I then proceeded
to install Ubuntu 10.4, and haven't booted back to Win7 since. After
posting this bug report, I decided to investigate the audio hardware
further using SiSoft
Excellent, thanks Didier! Jay, could you please look into using gnome-
desktop to get the desktop background for the Background object. See if
it also does the colour-only stuff, that would be useful :-)

Further no distinct events are recorded in the xev output file by using
two fingers. Only Button Press and Button release of Button1 occurs. By
pressing the two buttons of touchpad Button1(left click) and Button

I have exactly the same problem with a Dell 1525N. I can only watch the movie
but I cannot heard any sound from the TV with the HDMI link.
I use Ubuntu Lucid and I have try to update Alsa to 1.0.23 (instead of 1.0.22).

Alpha 2 linux 2.6.35-6 still has the same problems, on i845G requires
i915.modeset=0 in linux boot line and Driver vesa in xorg.conf
otherwise X hangs big time.
Alpha 2 CD Live did boot without these workarounds. It had one

I have an similar problem on Kubuntu 10.4. Each time I connect an
external Monitor to my laptop (ati X1300 graphic board) and run
xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output VGA-0 --auto --right-of LVDS

I created an /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-logitechmouse.conf file, and it
is working fine, but since a configuration file does not belong in the
/usr directory, I tried moving it to
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-logitechmouse.conf.
When I do so, the gdm

What's Debian/M inclusion?
Debian just saw 1.4.9-3 released to unstable. I think it should include
a fix for this particular issue. Will need to double-check. If it's
still missing the patch, I'll release 1.4.9-4 shortly.

Importance: Undecided
Certainly should not happen by default. An administrator removing an
application from the system shouldn't be removing files out of a user's
home directory, as the user may still want them to read settings, or
migrate settings to a different application.

My motherboard have an integrated ALC883 sound chip.
And everything works fine outside Skype, playback and recording.
When I set Skype playback to work with pulseaudio it works for some
seconds then the entire sound system seems to crash, no more sounds,
even outside Skype.
