As a workaround you could create a Jabber account with your Google Talk
credentials and enter gmail.com as a resource.

Sorry for the spams, I figured out one issue, I can't install
pulseaudio-dbgsym any more. I upgraded to 10.10 alpha whatever it's on
and I guess the dbgsym package isn't updated yet so it's supposedly
missing dependencies (it's dependent on an older verson of pulse).

I downloaded one of the Geek Brief HD videos. I got one of the HD ones,
not the HD (30fps) but the other one just labelled HD. Same problem
playing it in Totem as when watching it on the webpage with the Flash
player, which happens to also be the same problem you have been having
all along.

I no longer see any problem as I used to.
I'm now on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) and I can switch languages without
problems, both in firefox and elsewhere.

I used strace to confirm that the error message

battery run out and the laptop shut itself off. Then I plugged it in and

I've found a workaround, at least in the downloaded situation.
Hopefully it will work while streaming too.
If I begin playback of the file mentioned in comment #29 I get the
issue. If I then seek forward or back using Totem's slider playback

Yes there are various bits that consume bandwidth even when not
downloading or seeding:
1. The DHT network activity
2. Periodic scrapes / announces to the tracker for non-paused torrents
3. Handshakes with incoming peers
All of these will drive the network speed above zero.

upgrade to 10.4
The fix given on comment #26 is ok for me on 10.4

First I tried to install manually ATI proprietary driver 10.9 and gave
an error DKMS part of installation failed, then I tried to activate my
ATI driver from the Hardware drivers and gave this bug...

I just copied 127077 rows to clipboard from pgadmin3 1.10.5-1, Ubuntu
10.10 Maverick without any problems. Seems that this bug have been
fixed.
