I also got this error message. In the ubuntu-vm-builder, I had --
hostname 'test-vm' , I changed it to --hostname 'testvm' and the
problem disappears. So I believe the issue has to do with the minus sign

I tried it with a simplified test case with just DELETEing a lot of data

affecting other pieces of the Compiz experience? If not, that's a bug
that we need to fix.

I have a similar issue.
The problem (in my case) is that pppoeconf modifies the file
/etc/network/interfaces, adding the lines:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet manual
so that network-manager stops to handle eth0.
I commented these two lines, and network-manager works again.

thats a bug in compiz as i faced it too on a system (without unity
enabled) there are two things you can do at the moment. find metacity in
the applications folder and open it (it will bring your panels too, they
are running but not visible). or open tty1, login and do the following.

I also have this bug when running bluefish on a fresh UNR 10.10 install
on a HPMini 110. I don't have much else to add to what Bill has already
said, my screen looks that same. It's a shame as bluefish is one of my
most commonly used applications which works perfectly on the regular
desktop
On my computer it happens only when there is very high CPU load.
