usually the sign of wrong endianness (i386 and amd64 are little-endian,

Just un installed the scan software did a reboot and the reinstalled xscan and

That's fine... but the bug you marked me a duplicate of has been open
since 2006 and Dapper. if Gnome refuses to fix it, then we should, it's
a moderate physical security risk, a super big
just put

It's not practical to add quirks to the driver, so I'll probably close
this as opinion.

I had the same problem with newly installed 11.04. The problem for me
was related to installing dovecot-common without dovecot-imapd (or other
protocol support). Enabling the protocols in dovecot.conf without the
support libraries causes the error. This is evident when trying to run
dovecot
