Personally I apply the modeset=0 argment on bootup.
I do this by editing the /boot/grub/grub.conf file but that can be a bit risky
if your a nubie and you may find it hard to correct any mistakes that stop your
system booting.
However the fact that the radeon-kms.conf does not seem to be
sorry typo ..

playing videos. Seems to be a backwards compatibility issue with PCs

Anyway, please test whether it is fixed in the newest kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.39-rc4-natty/ . You
need the 2 *i386.deb and the *all.deb. Download and install with sudo
dpkg -i ... from a terminal.

Happens when playing any video (mpg, avi mvk) when its paused for 3+ mins

I don't know whether anybody will read what I am writing.
There is always an error message which appears before suspend and resume. I
could not read it because it disappeared quickly.
Yesterday suspend/resume worked three times fine. The fourth time the netbook
was frozen right after the error
This is a problem that affects everyone with a dual-monitor setup, where
the rightmost monitor is smaller than the leftmost, and the bottoms are
aligned.
The solution is to check where the top of the rightmost monitor is, and
put notifications below that.
