I just want to add that I started using Unity2D on 12.04 as a result of
these crashes with this GPU lockup CP stall issue, and have had zero
issues or crashes since doing so (if that helps anyone work around this
in the meantime.)
On a strange note, I have not noticed this issue on a fresh Debian
Patch for 12.04 once we get something into quantal -

My CUPS upload to my PPA (1.5.3-0ubuntu2~ppa2) is broken. In some hours
the new version 1.5.3-0ubuntu2~ppa3 will be available. Please wait for
this new version, update your system then, check whether you actually
have 1.5.3-0ubuntu2~ppa3 and then do the tests of comment #30 again.

exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue
remains, please run the following command in the development release

IME: the defect occurs when summoning a modal dialog. I can keep the
target program open (in my case, Lotus Notes) and use it for as long as
I want without decoration loss as long as I do nothing that creates a
modal dialog.
I can pretty much trigger the issue at will by summoning modal dialogs.
