It's been a while that VirtualBox does not resume any VMs anymore.
Tried the USB-Filter solution, the 2D- and 3D- acceleration solution, added
the user to the vboxusers group, but all to no avail.
Tried apt-get remove --purge virtualbox* and reinstalled. Same behavior. I
It looks like the bug's been fixed in one of the latest updates.
The screenruler package version is unchanged, but several packages where
updated since I first reported the bug.
For example uname -a now reports:

I have the same issue in xubuntu. I narrowed it down to it not working
when I click a window when going to a workspace. If that workspace has
some spare desktop space in it and you click there instead, then expo
keeps working. It seems that giving a window focus from when you are
'zoomed out'

I just found these instructions which purport to be for 12.04 and 12.10:

When I install Ubuntu or Xubuntu on my Eee PC, the install happens with
no errors or troubles of any kind, the liveUSB environment works
perfectly, but when I reboot, my Eee PC 1215B laptop stops with Reboot
and select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot
Further testing revealed that if I disable the drag and drop, I do not
have this issue, so it looks like it is stuck in a drag and drop (would
explain why it only happens when you go to a workspace when clicking a
window). I am also guessing that this is related to the fact that I can

renamed/reclassified to something along the lines of 'close lid do
nothing settings are ignored'.
Power Settings for both battery and plugged-in are set to 'do nothing'
for 'when the lid is closed' but my monitor still turns off on lid-

File new, File open - crash
rm .kde/share/config/kilerc; kile - dialog of which both answers lead to crash
sudo kile - all works fine
