Not quite sure whether it is the identical problem but the gnome constantly
asks for passwords for the vpn, some wifi networks and so on. It also fails to
connect to online accounts.

I've got the FHD XPS 13 and am pleased to note that the upgrade to
3.8.0-30-generic that I got this morning has fixed this - I now longer
have to pass 0 to /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness on
boot/resume to adjust the brightness.

When left clicking on the KDE networkmanagement widget, a popup window
appears divided in two panes. On the bottom of the left pane there are
several tickboxes for enabling or disabling the several network
interfaces present in the system. Everything works as it should,
I can confirm that slow login DOES NOT happen on i386 (x86). It only
happens on 64bit Xubuntu.
