I observed this bug in the previous LTS release (12.04?) and I confirm
it is still here in Ubuntu 14.04.1 (Thunderbird 31.2.0).
System details:
x86_64
nvidia graphics, nouveau driver
KDE enviroment
Happened in both Thunderbird and Firefox in Ubuntu 12.04. Under 14.04.1, I

This is similar to bug #1303790, but I am not sure it is a duplicate
since this case involves grub-pc being installed instead of grub-efi,
but it seems that like that other bug, ubiquity is falsely claiming that
grub-install failed when it did not.

I get this on startup when chrome is running in the background. And
then tabs in chrome randomly crash. Only happened after upgrading to
utopic, same chrome version otherwise booting to the kernel from

The menu I saw offered different versions of the operating system, one
per line. Since both the keyboard and the mouse were apparently not
effective, pressing 'C' would presumably have no effect. The choices

I am having a problem with a similar issue as the OP on my iBook G4
running Lu 14.04 . . . after running a recent update/upgrade with only 3
or 4 items listed, dbus was one I remember . . . screen went black . .
. tried to do something in TTY console to restart . . . then wound up
shutting down.
