Just to be clear. I don't expect the login to be instantaneous - it
never will be on a slow machine. It just looks bad for the screen to be
black for the whole process.

I tested on an KBL laptop and it did have the issue. Backport a patch
can make the machine idle to C10.

I don't currently have access to my nvidia hardware and to be honest not
even sure if rootless Xorg is supported yet on nvidia drivers, however I
would have assumed that if wayland is mostly working then the KMS
support would have been in good enough shape for this to work.

It has been used by default since 16.04 and is supported by all major
open drivers including vbox/vmware, so its rather widespread.
Obviously having Xorg run as the user account instead of root is big win

I had also the error "ocfs2 is not compatible with your environment."
when trying to start it with the default Pacemaker, Corosync and
ocfs2-tools under Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS.
This was the case both using console crm and LCMC.

After Kubuntu 17.04 installation (with Russian localisation if this
matter) I find that default switch keyboad layout shortcut (Alt+Shift)
work only in text terminal (VT1-VT6) but doesn't work in graphical
session. Even if some keyboard shortcut (like Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift)
We encountered this bug today and it has the potential to be pretty
nasty if you're unfortunate enough to hit it. In our case we have
several systems which perform authentication against a Windows domain
using LDAPS. We recently updated the TLS certificate on those systems
and all the services
