My gnome desktop session just segfaulted or somehow crashed. Before the
crash, the desktop session was running for hours, it even survived
several s2ram's during the past days.
I did not have these issues for a long time.
My syslog shows up a lot of errors around the crash,
unattended upgrades did an upgrade this morning:
libgdm1
That could be the reason for this issue. Eventually, a restart of the
display manager would have avoided this issue after the update.
I'll track this issue for some time and see if it reappears after a
reboot and in regular execution

when running off battery), occur on a 2016 Dell system when the xHCI (USB 3.0)
driver is not available. Perhaps the device remains on while on AC.

Closing the MAAS task as it the referenced bug is marked Fix Release. If
there are issues there still, please see my previous comment and look at
the code in that snap-- there are viable ways to use overlayfs with
chroot and an apparmor alias rule, or overlayfs with private mount,

Ok, I spent quite a bit of time evaluating this and believe this bug can
be closed, but other bugs open.
In looking at this I created https://code.launchpad.net/~jdstrand/+git
/test-overlay (to build simply git clone, run 'snapcraft', install the
snap and then run 'test-overlay' for instructions
