I am using Ubuntu 16.04 with KDE Neon User Edition on a Lenovo T510.
The screen blinks periodically. I describe it as a blink because it
seems to switch off and right back on very quickly, as if I had just
blinked by eyes. At seemingly random times, the screen will go black
I did a regression on a USB 3.0 problem in 2013. This traced the
problem to a change in the usb code.

Same symptoms, same result on a headless always-on box running 16.04.
Made worse by the fact that I have to hard-power off the box and hook it
up to monitor for troubleshooting. Every couple weeks the machine will
lose connection to the network.
Last time I thought I lost the on-board NIC and
@Till, see 'man 7 capabilities' for what net_admin grants. We need to
understand why the access is needed before granting it.

you are trying to connect to or does it happen for all of them? What

I don't see it needed for the login screen and it's not working for the
gnome-screensaver unlock screen.
Using Ubuntu 17.04 here, but I have seen the same on LTS 16.04 and 14.04.
I know it's specific to gnome-screensaver since this is not happening in a
Unity session, only Gnome.

1. Should we include the hv_sock module as built-in or keep it as a

2. It's better to try to reserve in upstream the address family number
(AF_HYPERV) to avoid conflicts with future rebases and problems with
