Thanks. So the problem does seem to be with the Nvidia driver.
You might want to start by trying to uninstall "i386" packages like:
sudo dpkg -P libnvidia-gl-390:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri:i386
and if that doesn't clear it up then:
sudo apt --fix-broken install

You can close this bug.
I compiled Calligra 3.0.1 from source, and CMAKE output:
"The following required product(set)s/features can NOT be built
APP_STAGE: Stage app (for Desktop) [[needed by: STAGE]] | No maintainer
currently"
So, I guess that is that.

After reading the Linux audio sub system documentation I discovered
/sys/class/sound/hwC0D0 and hda-verb. That will hopefully do the trick.

This can't be a good answer.
For external software providers, if they want to ship a program linked
against libreadline, and support it on multiple LTS versions of Ubuntu
(from 14.04 to 18.04), this makes it impossible for them.
There's no way they can force a link against libreadline5, unless
A possible solution is to parse the kernel version, I will give it a
shot.

I filed a Debian bug for this at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=921046, since that's what I'm actually using. In
that bug I included a patch to
hw/xfree86/drivers/modesetting/drmmode_display.c in the xserver-xorg-
core package that fixes the issue for me.

Hmm, thanks. That list shows the problematic package libwayland-
server0:i386 is not installed (any more). But you do have the correct
one libwayland-server0:amd64.
Can you please run this command:
sudo apt install --reinstall libwayland-server0
and send us the output you see?

Can confirm that removing xserver-xorg-input-synaptics fixes the issue.
