If "prime-select query" returns "on-demand" and the Nvidia GPU is used
when you run with those variables, then on-demand is working correctly.

With a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04.1,
adding the following to /etc/gdm/custom.conf

Enable=tue
ShowLocalGreeter=false
works fine. But with ShowLocalGreeter=true,
gdm3 does not show a login box to a remote X server.

Recently installed Arch Linux and I am no longer encountering this issue
at all.

The only tip I can give, is that I tried @ferenc's fix while I was running
5.8.0 kernel.
It was working as expected with the regular problems.
Then I've had some issues with Virtualbox-dkms and needed to go back to
5.4.0-47 kernel version.
Suddenly Ubuntu detects the trackpad flawlessly.
Good
No idea. I didn't march forward on the commits until it breaks, and I
don't know when the bug occurs or I'd scream about it.
What I do know is this old version is stable and I've had demonstrably
no problems with it.

for me when the title of a full screen window (the window for which
Caffeine inhibits idleness) contains a non-ASCII character. This causes
an error in the embedded Perl script in xdg-screensaver, in the

Hah, thanks for your instructions they yielded results. For each of
these tests I did the following.
* Reconfigured `pam-auth-update`
* I set `obey pam restrictions = Yes`
* Rebooted
* Checked whether the issue was reproducible
* service restart smbd
* check whether $HOME was still mounted
I think I've found the reason, but not the solution.

in BIOS mode and UEFI mode, also with secure boot from the current daily
Xubuntu Groovy iso file. I used the setting 'usb-pack-efi'.
