The ntfs mount option points to the default/best mount option for NTFS;
eg. in hardy it is actually ntfs-3g.
$ which mount.ntfs | xargs ls -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 2008-07-14 12:18 /sbin/mount.ntfs - /bin/ntfs-3g
So using ntfs should make sure that you always use the default/best NTFS

(1) Driver/HAL problems
(2) Problems with the software handling it (kde-guidance/gnome equivalent).
Depending on your hardware, you could be affected by either (1) or (2)
or both. (2) affects kde in hardy (fix is in hardy-proposed); but I

(HAL) doesn't report it. It looks like current voltage is reported; but

Hi Jon
I'm working on getting it into hardy; see the SRU request at the bottom
of bug 82279 . It will at first get into hardy-proposed before going
into hardy-updates; so it would be very nice if one that is affected has
hardy-proposed enabled to give feedback when it get into hardy-proposed.
