I was able to boot in a previous kernel Ubuntu, with Linux
4.2.0-27-generic.
Ubuntu, with Linux 4.2.0-30-generic will not boot.

Boot to
I have tried to interrupt the boot process by holding the shift key or
the escape key to hopefully produce a menu of prior kernels with no
success. I could be using the wrong sequence to stop the boot process.

Since the system only boots to a black screen and I cannot access the
terminal and I cannot provide the logs. The Vm is the Vmware player
6.0.7 build-2844087.

Upon installing Ubuntu updates on 02-23-2016 (kernel updates, I
believe), my VM installation boots to a black screen. I reproduced
another Ubuntu 15.10 installation, installed updates and the same
problem was duplicated.
