[Bug 47158] Re: pppoe connection loses DNS addresses after the first DHCP lease renewal in dapper RC

2008-11-05 Thread Borden Rhodes
I think we can close this bug. If I'm not mistaken, the problem was due to Network Manager handling PPPoE connections incorrectly (which has since been fixed). -- pppoe connection loses DNS addresses after the first DHCP lease renewal in dapper RC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47158 You

[Bug 291675] Re: Ubuntu Desktop 8.1.0 does't load - hangs with black screen

2008-11-03 Thread Borden Rhodes
This problem (which also affects my Inspiron 1100) was not present when I installed the 8.04 KDE4 remix but when I upgraded to Kubuntu 8.10 (and it's also in Ubuntu too). The problem seems to be with xorg and perhaps the xserver-xorg-video- intel driver. The workaround proposed at

2008-11-03 Thread Borden Rhodes
Ah, it turns out the reason why that workaround fails is because the i810 driver's been discontinued. I can get K/Ubuntu to boot with the Vesa driver (id est, insert Driver vesa into the Section Device part of the xorg.conf file) Therefore, this is almost certainly a regression in the

When I found this 'feature' I asked for comments on Mozilla's forums and received this encouraging discourse: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=601991 which ultimately led to Thunderbird being the first open source program I strongly discourage my clients from using. Don't expect much

[Bug 151539] Re: No easy way to revert pppoeconf's configuration changes

2008-01-15 Thread Borden Rhodes
I agree entirely with your argument with the reservation that I think pppoeconf is the wrong suspect and that this complaint should be going to Gnome's network manager or something (I'll see what the KDE equivalent is on my end). Are you howling any of them up? -- No easy way to revert

[Bug 47158] Re: pppoe connection loses DNS addresses after the first DHCP lease renewal in dapper RC

2008-01-15 Thread Borden Rhodes
PPPoE works correctly in PCLinuxOS and the major difference I can see is that, when I check my pstree, there is no DHCP client running. Therefore, it seems reasonable that disabling DHCP renewals on all PPPoE interfaces will solve this problem. For the less technically astute, this should either

[Bug 151539] Re: No easy way to revert pppoeconf's configuration changes

On my PPPoE connection on Gutsy (and before then, for that matter), I have no difficulty switching between PPPoE connections and Ethernet connections without touching pppoeconf. When you have the troubles, see whether there's a ppp# running since that'll be what's 'hijacking' the connection, and

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution This problem is similar to Bug 24924 (Launchpad) but since that bug has been fixed and updated, I decided to file a new bug. When deleting a memo from a long list of memos (mine has 280+ and counting) instead of focus going to the next or
