I just installed 64-bit 10.04 onto an IBM ThinkPad W500, and I was
having the same network-manager related problem, which was resolved by
switching to wicd as suggested in comment #46.
The important snippet from lspci -v is:

Based on a forum suggestion I checked the gconf /apps/gksu/sudo-mode
setting, and it was false. I changed it to true, and update-manager now
works as expected again. I'm not sure how the setting got changed, but

I also have this problem on 10.10. The 10.04 install that I upgraded
from did not have this problem.
It has nothing to do with pulseaudio, since I don't even have pulseaudio
installed. Therefore, the work-arounds suggested elsewhere don't help.

I have the same problem on a machine with intel graphics that uses
inteldrmfb instead of radeondrmfb. The resolution issue is also resolved
on that machine by disabling KMS.

The laptop for which this was a problem was installed back to Hardy for
unrelated reasons. I have three other machines running Xubuntu 9.10, and
none of them have ever exhibited this problem. In the absence of
confirmation from other users, I am going to mark this bug as invalid to
indicate that
Based on another user's suggestion, I deleted my .config directory,
logged back in, and reconfigured xfce to get back to where I had been.
After server system restarts, I no longer see this problem. Assuming
that it is related to some oddity in my previous xfce configuration, I

I have tried on Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty, and they are all consistent in
their behavior where .xsession is concerned. The only way to have .xsession
executed is to select the 'Run Xclient script'
session type in gdm. Note that .xsession is not sourced in any of these
releases, but executed,
I don't believe that this bug is valid. My read of the scripts in
Xsession.d is that .xsessionrc will be sourced no matter what session
you choose, not .xsession or .xinitrc.
I don't know why your .xinitrc was being sourced in previous releases,
because the scripts look the same to me, at least
I recently reinstalled from the released lpia alternate install CD. I
can now confirm that the alternate install CD can be used to install the
lpia architecture build without any special tweaking to get the
necessary kernel and/or modules installed.

Applications using the new notify-osd will typically use a new set of
icons with notification-* names. The Human Gtk theme is the only one
that provides these icons. Users who choose a theme with a different
icon set get no icon, just an empty
I'm sure that this will most likely be marked at wishlist priority,
and I'm fine with that, since the typical user who has selected a
different theme will recognise that it is easy to include the Human
theme icons in the selected them. For example:

I was using the hd-media vmlinuz and initrd.gz due to bug 355376, and
the fact that the USB stick guide seems to suggest that the hd-media
installer is required to use the alternate install ISO from USB.
Since bug 355376 is fixed and Arnaud says that the ISO install works
perfectly, I expect that
I tried the current alternate install ISO, after installing it with usb-
creator version 0.1.10~hardy1. It works now without any special steps
required. Simply boot from the USB stick and follow the prompts.

I've attached the details you asked for. As you can see in the log
