where I suspect that in Ubuntu 'it ain't broke so let's fix it' -

A quick look suggests that #205103 is a lesser problem, concerned with slow
StartUp whereas I this report is about an unacceptable delay to ShutDown or to
Restart. The manual override of disabling Network

I must emphasise that I am not a Linux guru, more of an expert user and
retired problem solver, but #274995 was in agreement with other Alpha and Beta
release reports previously made by me and since sentenced as incomplete

I have tried to change this bug status so that it's NOT a duplicate of #295103
which I hope works. Having read #295103 it is indeed a simpler bug and fixing
that wouldn't guarantee getting the

In My Opinion, this Bug is NOT a duplicate of #294896 which is further
confirming #24995 reports of the formal release suffering from more than three
minute ShutDown delays.
THIS bug report is about slow Startup which at around 75 seconds, is far less
of a problem on my [A] rig.

Attempted change of status didn't work, so the chance of getting this
problem looked at, let alone solved is receding even more !

Ubuntu 8.10 ShutDown-Restart Delay

I will try to stay in touch with the reports that you mention, with
receipt of Launchpad updates like yours helping. My message store
is now rather large ! Although retired I am not in the best of health,
but tracking Ubuntu and other distro developments

Other Bug Reports have reported failure or freezing of the ShutDown or
Restart process, but the formal release of Ubuntu 8.10 simply pauses
for about three minutes during ShutDown or Restart. Start from 'cold'
takes about fifty seconds (twice as long as for Ubuntu 8.04.1).
Just for the record, today's formal release of Ubuntu 8.10 is even worse. After
a lot of attempts, a LiveCD session fails to load on my E4600 [B] rig, and
when installed instead can only be ShutDown or ReStarted by switching off the
PC. Instead of dwelling for three minutes at failure to
