Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gaim
No user interaction is required, simply start Gaim and it will crash
anytime up to 10 minutes.
When run from the console it will occasionally indicate the crash was
due to corrupted double-linked list.
I have installed the dbg symbols and run it
This is crashing on more than on machine installed with 64-bit version
of Feisty.

I edited the /etc/pulse/default.pa file shortly before it crashed, perhaps
that caused the problem?
(I changed it to statically detect my hardware so that Pulse Audio used my
speaker sound output instead of my modem sound device)

Confirmed that there is in fact a newer version :)
My interest is in the possible fix for errors such as:

= msg.8wVQD:2,)
Which causes problems such as disconnecting on EXPUNGE errors with

I had to resort to installing kernel 2.6.18 to allow ndiswrapper to
work.
Doing this also fixed my laptop battery meter (Acer Ferrari 4005
laptop).

This is an Acer Ferrari 4005 Laptop, using a Broadcom 4318 chipset for
Wifi.
I've had to resort to installing a 2.6.18 kernel to use ndiswrapper
(this also fixed pretty much all other issues with this laptop's
hardware in Ubuntu).

BCM43xx failing on Edgy AMD64 kernel
Unfortunately adding noapic nolapic makes the situation worse, with my
sound card looping the bongo drum sounds on gdm startup.
As for BCM43xx, that has never worked for me (I have 2G of memory which
is supposed to have been fixed in later kernels, but so far no luck)

BCM43xx failing on Edgy
I managed to prevent these APIC errors flooding my dmesg by removing the
ohci1394 module.
However I only get battery when I include irqpoll on the kernel command
line.
This is regardless of if I use a fixed DSDT.
This is a definite regression from Dapper for my laptop (Ferrari 4005).

The machine now locks up occasionally with irqpoll boot option, so for
the time being I have turned that off and I now get flooded with the
following in dmesg:
[ 760.360217] APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)
[ 760.446461] APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)
[ 760.967114] APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)

Sorry, I should have thought that one through.
As an update I have discovered the possible reason for the flood of APIC error
on CPU0: 40(40) messages and detailed it in an associated bug:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/66900

I've found the cause of these errors on my machine.
All I need to do is remove the ohci1394 module ie:
sudo modprobe -r ohci1394
and the messages immediately go away.
I haven't yet found a way to disable this module on bootup (blacklisting
it doesn't prevent it from loading).
So it appears to

I managed to reduce (but not completely solve) this by appending some kernel

I too am experiencing this on an Acer Ferrari 4005.
It occurs every few seconds, and ends up filling up dmesg completely.
I have attached an output of sudo lspci -vv.
All of this ws captured without the broadcom (bcm43xx) module loaded.
If there is any other information I can provide, please let
I have attached the dmesg log captured soon after a bootup.
I am using a fixed DSDT for the Ferrari 4005 (which I fixed myself).
[NOTE: While looking over the log file it eventually filled up the dmesg
buffer, but I noticed the many lost ticks warning at the end]
A quick analysis shows these
I had this problem until I removed the wacom driver.
