I don't know what your fix is, but it seems to work, here is my output:

Here is the result if I switch back to the default option (but still using
French Alternative layout). So that Rhythmbox's search doesn't work anymore
and, as you can see, the space in Ctrl+Space

I've got the same bug. But for me there was always one beep at shutdown on
Intrepid. I thought it was normal because of the shutdown command, wasn't it?
Now, on Jaunty, it's like 4 beeps in a row... It seems a bit random, but always
in this range.

I don't know for you, but if I use the France (Legacy) Alternative, it
works until I reboot my system. After that, everything I wrote with my
keyboard gives me stuff like æâ€êþÿûîœô as if Alt Gr was always
pressed.

reinstalled the whole ubuntu because all the changes had ruined my xorg
config file, but even before the reinstallation, the VGA cable was
showing some improvements).

Hi!
I've already answered on the other bug report (#200160) and seen that it was a
duplicate.
I just wanted to point out that it seems to aim everyone that has a non-english
kb layout and who also uninstalled SCIM.
The first condition is because english language doesn't need accents as often
