Public bug reported:
After selecting to perform a Distribution Upgrade from Mantic to Noble
Numbat within the update-manager I got a message from the upgrade
process saying :
"Could not install 'gconf2'.
The upgrade will continue but the 'gconf2' package may not be in a working
state.
Ignore what I said about Noble Numbat, it was actually a fresh Mantic
installation that creates the bpool with incorrect compatibility flags.

Just thought I would add the salient findings from Bug #2041739.
* update-grub/grub-probe fails when the `feature@extensible_dataset` flag is
enabled on bpool
* this happens when the bpool is created without the `-o
compatibility=grub2,ubuntu-22.04` compatibility flags and a subsequent snapshot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2051999 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2051999
That would seem to indicate the Ubuntu Mantic installation process is
creating the bpool with zfs flags that are incompatible with grub. I
wonder if the problem is still present in Noble Numbat/24.04?
Are

We use libnss-ldapd.
I think it may be sufficient to claim:

This means they should not be provided by any networked service ..." [1]
So, is this even a bug? If your OS uses systemd, then you need to ensure

Paride,
IF the nagios user is in LDAP, then /var/run/nagios will not be created
by systemd at boot time, or any time after that.
I can confirm that the following sequences fail to get nagios-nrpe-

Paride, unfortunately, when systemd fails to create /var/lib/nagios
during system boot, the nagios-nrpe-server service can not be started
manually. If the operator creates the missing directory and chowns it to
nagios, they can then start the service manually.
** Changed in: nagios-nrpe (Ubuntu)
I am still testing but it looks like the problem for me is that we have

correct to provision our system-level users in system-level files.
