While calculating upgrade requirements, Distribution Upgrade stopped with a
dialog that read:
Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running
dist-update files:

After the installation failed, the program stayed in apt-get list of
programs to install, and so messed up attempts to install anything else.
sudo apt-get purge rt4-extension-assettracker was needed to avoid that
problem, but, of course, the application was not installed.
