Ubuntu 8.10, up to date.
Using Ati supplied 9.01 driver, updated with repository updates to fglrx
of date 18 Feb 2009. Blank screen when booted to the following day.
Restarted using the safe mode with xfix selected from the menu.

I'm more and more inclined to believe that this is a charset selection
related with the availability of those charsets in the clients that are
there for Feisty (MacRoman, specifically), rather than a bug in the
programs themselves. Nothing so far seems to imply other possibilities.

Binary package hint: gtkhx
Comments can not be seen in the Hotline client gtkhx (or fidelio, for
that matter) if they contain letters that are outside a-z range (å, ä,
or ö, for example). They appear as empty lines in the chat window. This
may be due to MacRoman encoding
