I'm installing updates for the last couple of weeks on a virtual machine
running under VirtualBox. It got to Setting up grub-pc (2.02-beta2-9ubuntu1)...
then it stayed there for 25 minutes before I shut down the virtual box and
restored a snapshot.
Running top shows me
Peter, did you try changing the sound settings from analog headphones to
analog speakers? Did you try the alsa-driver I linked to? If so, what
happened?

I used the Synaptic Package Manager to mark python-setuptools for
removal, apply, mark it for installation, and apply. The installation
worked without error.
I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 with python-setuptools 0.6c9-0ubuntu1.
