I found this bug through searching on the error message. My box works
great under Windows, my crawls under Linux. (I've been running Linux on
my desktop for 20 years, so it's not like this is the first time I've
compared operating systems on the same hardward.) Seems like it's still
a problem,
This is probably from adding the ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates PPA.

I don't have this computer any more, so I can't test this. I gave up on
it as there seemed to be no workaround on quick fix. (I traded it with
my kids' computer so I wouldn't be bothered by the bug, then gave it
away when I get a new computer.)

So what's the upshot here? I'm being forced into trying btrfs because
there seems to be a bug with 10.10, ext4, and (my) SSD. If I can't get
this installed, what's the alternative? Fall back to 11.04? Is there no
workaround to get 11.10 installed on btrfs?

Answering myself with the obvious. The 11.04 installer doesn't seen have
a problem here. I'll finish installing, and just do a dist-upgrade.

Uh... nevermind. As soon as it installed 3.0.0 on the new version, it
blew up just like before. I'm concluding that btrfs on Ubuntu is
considered harmful.
There's two hours I'll never get back.

Since making this report, I had verified the existence of the bug by
downloading various tar'd kernel sources and doing `fakeroot make-kpkg
--initrd kernel_image kernel_headers'. I did all the versions from
2.6.36.4 through 2.6.38. I know 36.4 is good, and .38 is bad, but I got
a little turned
Still there as of 3.0.x...

I've had the same problem. (GDB bt shows the failure in gobject.) I also
tried using the latest version of the software from
http://syncevolution.org/documentation/installation, but I still have
problems.
