Hi Steve,
What you described with systemd-resolved and the resolver on the
loopback interface looks to be the issue.
Adding the rule allowing dns on 127.0.0.1 solved the issue.

Using dconf-editor, gconf-editor etc. has no effect on time format. In
dconf-editor one can change to display date, seconds etc. but time
format string has no effect.

As a short fix you can do:
$ killall notification-daemon
when you recognize issue.
This will stop the notification-daemon and start it fresh on next
notification.
The problem is with notification-daemon. It has a hard-coded limit of
20. This is, AFAIK, how many messages can be in the queue
Seems like gm-notify hangs after error. (Never used it before). So, to
extend the ugly hack-fix add something like:

correct by doing an dpkg-reconfigure gksu? If that would make
automagical correction easier, I mean.

I was and am using the one currently packaged in Edgy, 0.23-1. If 0.23.1
contains fixes to address the current version's problems, then that
