I installed the debugger and enabled it as per Harrison's instructions,
but was never able to duplicate a crash.
I did, however, upgrade to the new Flash 10 beta (alpha? I can't
remember) shortly after that and have been problem-free ever since. Not
a solution, but thought I'd mention it.

I would, but after that crash I tried installing again and it went
through just fine...I don't know whether that is good news or bad news
for you :).
