1TB Hitachi drives (I don't have the model to hand). They don't cause
the issue all the time. Running an apt update/upgrade caused it
momentarily but logging into KDE causes it to almost block the drive for

I've tried the volume level trick already, it didn't work, even using
alsamixer to make sure it wasn't a hidden one. Muting the master doesn't
even effect it. I grepped for all kernel modules with snd and put them
all into the black list file. that stopped it loading the driver and
killed off the

Unfortunatly I've tried that and it doesn't seem to work at all. The
whole activating of the wireless is a little odd in fact it doesn't seem
to have an effect sometimes. dmesg doesn't report much either.
/var/log/syslog does give NetworkManager errors and timeouts though.
Very odd..
Argh unbelievable, it must have been timing issue, I just retried
activating the card at slightly later stage in the boot splash and it's
worked! Is there anything I can re-add to this to help narrow down
getting it activated without having to hit the power on during boot?

Ah I've found out what actually activated it for me. I had installed
linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic
whilst testing. I've uninstalled it and again wireless just doesn't
work. Reinstall and it does, so I'm 99.99% sure that's the cause for me.

It doesn't appear to be, although I've only done fresh installs for the
last couple of rebuilds. This was on an older machine which has since
been rebuilt with a fresh install of Lucid and the problem did not
occur.

Should mention it turns up fine in dmesg, iwconfig also shows it as

It appears I don't have one installed, which seems a little odd. I did

It's working properly now, ran an full-upgrade. kdebase-workspace still
seems to not be installed, but I got 25 updates (pasted below) earlier
and one of them fixed it. The -bin version seems the same too, so
obviously one of the other packages.

I've just encountered this this morning after getting update to 4.2
indication on my Intrepid install (with back-ports enabled). Mine seemed
to be an issue with Kate requiring libplasma3 but libplasma2 was
blocking it. I've attached a dump of errors I got but I can attach
anything els ein case
I upgraded to Alpha4 from Intrepid. IT worked fine for a while, did it's
very first index, told me it had finished, I was looking about System
Settings at Notifications panel when it crashed, probably 2mins after it
had completed first index.
FWIW: The laptop is a Sony PCG-FX701 (i386 AMD Athlon

I've upgraded from Hardy and KDE3 to Intrepid with obviously KDE4.
Upgrade was smooth and caused no issue, but oddly the Saved Sessions in
Kate are now using what appears to be the Session ID for the saved
session name rather than the physical name. This is when I look at the

I tried the Plasmoid which seemed to read them correctly but it actually
failed to load any of them. I resorted to renaming all my files based on
the Name= field int he file... slow painful but it worked
(Substituting %20 for any whitespace chars).
