I have the same problem with a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop with the SB600 ATI southbridge, R482 northbridge and Sempron 3600+ cpu. The boot stops with the message about modules.dep when I try to use an USB key. The use of noacpi=off and related options don't solve the problem. The trick of
