Thanks for the threading tip. I've just edited my startup file to
disable multi-threaded operation, with a command line like this:
smbnetfs /my/mountpoint -s
So far, it hasn't crashed using this mode. (I suspect I have lost some
performance, though.)

It might be nice if update-initramfs made some effort to correct the
contents of /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume. I know that update-
initramfs is probably not the ultimate cause if
progress regarding this problem? What about re-
releasing the via driver again? Is it worth it downloading the 8.10
live-cd now or does it still hang on boot?

I just installed the latest Hardy kernel update, from 2.6.24-19-generic

The complicating factor is that the problem does not exist at all on
2.6.24 (running intrepid userland), but is very easy to reproduce with
2.6.27. I agree that our network environments are related, but the

I have this problem in ubuntu hardy, with a 2 mbit/sec video clip being
streamed over localhost with rtsp. A few seconds into the clip, the
audio drops out for just under a second, and gst-launch prints this:

This glitch happens almost every time.
A similar audio dropout followed by loss of a/v sync happens with
another (similar) video clip, but in its case, the dropout and sync
shift are less than half a second, and no warning message is printed.

I believe the fix for this bug broke standard functionality now. After
his proposed (Step 1), you do activity and LEAVE the windows you just
created opened, when you click the show desktop button again it should
actually show the desktop, not restore all the previously hidden
windows.

Ok, to update my last post. I logged out and logged back in, and evne
opened a root window, (terminal, su to root) and now printing from the
remote system doesn't work again and it locks up the printer I can't
figure this one out. I have no idea why it worked yesterday and not
today. I tried a
not actually installed Server Edition myself, so this is mostly
hearsay for me.

My understanding of this issue is that it is really a GCC bug, since GCC
uses CMOV when compiling for 686, even though it is an optional
instruction.
The traditional work-around is to compile for 586. I believe kernel
option CONFIG_M586=y should fix this.
Note that current Ubuntu Server kernels
Exact same problem for me, only its a usb photosmart 7260 printer. It
detected fine when I first plugged it in, test page fine, then later on
I tried to print from firefox, and it didn't print. So I went to do a
test page again and it didn't work. I tried to push the power button on
the printer
ok here is my experience, I installed a photosmart 7260 printer via USB.
It auto detected perfeclly, everything fine. Printed a few pages. Then
tried to print from a windows vista system on my network, and it gave a
media jam error. After this, no print jobs could ever be done on the
printer until
Adding my voice to this bug. It's rather a pain for a project I'm
working on, which uses Hardy server on low powered server boxes with VIA
Nehemiah CPUs. Installation completes, but boot fails with a message
