Doing a bzr qdiff on any tree of any size with or without actual
difference will make Xorg take 2G of RSS and make my workstation
unusable. Killing the bzr process frees the X server memory.

I've updated the three files and attempted hibernate again with the
exact same results. Again, there is no sign of an attempt to look for
the resume device on boot after wards. I'm attachin the kern.log file,
at the end you'll find the boot-up after the hibernation attempt, and

Hibernate never worked on this latop (at least until Hardy), I've never
tested Hardy.
It seems to go to hibernation fine, (at least it shuts down). But when I
restart, it's like a normal boot apart from the recovering of the ext3
journals.

I'm using stock kernel and I don't know about initramfs, so I guess I'm
using the default there also.
I do remember though that whenever I installed a kernel package under
hardy I had a message like this:

I'm very sorry to report that the lock-up is still happening in the same
circumstances. The kernel package I have installed (from today) is:

I confirm it is still hapenning in the latest package: 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu8.
I also confirm that it has the same behaviour under EXA or UXA.
The only stable work-around seems to be to disable desktop effects.

I have a Sansa E280 MP3 mplayer that doesn't seem detected when I mount
it. I upgraded from Hardy and in that version, the device was properly
mounted on the desktop.
I know that Ubuntu doesn't automount devices anymore, but i would expect
it to appear in the device notifier

So I didn't find any interesting error messages apart maybe the following which
appeared at the end of my Xorg.0.log:
exaCopyDirty: Pending damage region empty!
But the register trick does show a difference:

Btw, it seems that the KMail trick is a very reliable way to reproduce
the lock-up. I've also found a work-around for this very common source
of lock ups, i paste the subject line from another place, that way there
is a single update to the window title which

When the display is locked-up, the mouse pointer moves on the screen,
but the pointer doesn't change, the keyboard doesn't do anything, and

-p from the command line, Launchpad is opened in Konqueror even though

After upgrading from Hardy to Jaunty, once I rebooted the screen was
trashed (black with some coloured noise bars).
I rebooted and use the 'recover' menu to reset the X configuration. The
display is working correctly after that.
