After installing 16.04 without third-party drivers and with Secure Boot
still enabled, I clicked on Additional Drivers in Software & Updates
settings, and selected the one available driver, microcode firmware for
Intel CPUs. After rebooting, the setting still shows "1 proprietary
driver in use".
Why is it the case that "installing third-party drivers requires turning
off Secure Boot"?
Is there a technical reason, or is it purely a policy decision (there's
no chain of trust, so Ubuntu isn't going to take responsibility for
security)? It's not explained either in the "Learn more..." popup

'dirdiff' needs 'wish' installed for it to run, without it you get the
following error:
/usr/bin/dirdiff: 3: exec: wish: not found
'wish' is in the 'tk' package and installing it fixes the error,
'dirdiff' should depend on this.

I've noticed recently that VLC seems to be only outputting mono audio
when the input audio file is stereo (mp3, aac, etc). Comparing the

this problem very evident, VLC seems to be just downmixing the

I've found on 14.10, if you enable the shortcut in CCSM and then disable
it, that effectively disables it. However, I've also found each distro
release re-enables this annoying shortcut, even if it's marked as
disabled.
This speaks to underlying issues in the Compiz keyboard shortcuts

After upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10, applets no longer work correctly in

Just updating this bug, since I'm running into it on my UX302LG. It
looks like it should be fixed in future kernel releases, so it'd be
useful to know if the patches mentioned here are actually in the next
Ubuntu release (14.10):
