That's why I said IF it supports it. I checked and after amavis version

Maybe somebody with a little more experience with amavis should take a

I hope I understood correctly what you wanted to say above.
You shouldn't ever run clamav daemon as root.
How is your havp set up? By default havp uses the clamav library to scan
for viruses, and NOT clamav daemon. Maybe this is why it's working,
because it doesn't use clamav daemon.
Please
Ok, then check this: does the clamav daemon (which runs as clamav user
by default) have read access to the files you try to scan? When using
havp with clamav daemon, clamav user gets added to havp group, so it has
read access to havp's files.

The most recent available ClamAV version is 0.95.2, and upgrading is
highly recommended.
If you still have that kind of massive directory, could you try scanning
it with this new version of ClamAV, which should be available on
Dapper/Hardy/Intrepid in the -backports repository (see
It's not clamd that is locked down specifically, it's because of
Apparmor, which restricts a lot of things if running.
You can choose not to use Apparmor, or as said above, you can modifiy
clamd's Apparmor profile to include those directories you need to scan.
I'm pretty sure that Apparmor
That's what I said, you can add exceptions to apparmor, you can clutter
it up with a bunch of folders OR you can 1. add the root folder to it
(/**), which kinda defeats apparmor's purpose, or 2. you could use
clamscan for scanning arbitrary folders manually.
It all depends on what you want to do
The only possible benefit I can see in using clamdscan over clamscan is
the speed. When using clamdscan, that's actually using the running
clamav-daemon, which has preloaded database, so startup is a bit faster.
But beside that, clamdscan/clamd is usually used for stuff like
integrating in MTA
I'm not sure why you're scanning your home folder with clamdscan,
instead of clamscan (which would work by default).
Apparmor is supposed to restrict clamd acces, that's what it's for I
guess. You can always add the directories you want to scan with
clamdscan to clamav-daemon's apparmor profile
Hi
The problem could be that clamdscan uses clamav daemon to scan for
files, but clamav daemon runs with user clamav, which doesn't have acces
to your files in /home/imi (because /home/imi has 0700 permissions
probably).
You could consider using clamscan instead of clamdscan for scanning
files
If you _really_ want to scan your home with clamdscan you could do
something like this:
- usermod -a -G imi clamav (this puts clamav user in the 'imi' group)
- chmod 0750 /home/imi (this gives group read permission in your home
directory, so anybody who is in 'imi' group can open/read the

Did some test on jaunty i386, so far it seems to work ok. I've tested
the following apps that use clamav (libclamav to be more precise):
- dansguardian
- havp
- klamav: OK
- python-clamav: OK
- clamtk: OK
These all worked without problems and found the test EICAR virus.

Clamav needs update
I can reproduce this only by deleting /etc/clamav/clamd.conf manually.
This configuration file is not in the clamav package, and removing
clamav does not remove it. The file gets created on-the-fly after
installing packages.
Are you sure you didn't delete the config file by accident, then tried

checked on Jaunty and the same thing happens, I'm not sure why mount
shows /dev/loop0 instead of the filename that got mounted.

When stopping havp (0.90-1ubuntu1) on Karmic, it doesn't unmount
/var/spool/havp and because of this it can't start again.
Looking at the init script it seems the script checks if
/var/lib/havp/havp.loop is mounted by grep'ing the output of mount

Binary package hint: gurlchecker
Just installed gurlchecker version 0.11-2 on Karmic and with the default
configuration, anything I try to scan, gurlchecker just segfaults.
Steps to reproduce:
- apt-get install gurlchecker
- remove the ~/.gurlchecker directory
- start

I have only english version Ubuntu installed, I never messed with the
languages. Still, this new gurlchecker (0.11-2) in Karmic has 'Fichier'
instead of 'File' and 'Aide' instead of 'Help' (see attached screenshot)
in the main menu. I did not
