The same problem here with Jaunty Ubuntu Beta. The first attempt to activate
the proprietary driver resulted in a crash, the second try insalled the driver
without any problems.

I'm afraid it's the same that happened to me with 7.0 ... my /boot is
just 52MB and with only 1.6MB free. Update manager seems to ignore it
and the kernel update process crashes (but then, is this a bug of
initramfs or of the update
