If you replace /etc/hosts with a zero length file (as some editors may

To use this patch you will have to know how to apply patches
compile a kernel properly. As you can see from previous posts it does work. We
are awaiting for the Ubuntu kernel team to integrate the patch into a kernel
that is easy to consume. That way you will not have to use

This issue was dissussed at UDS-l conference. The proposed solution was
to be made through a new oem iso image the oem-config that comes along
with it. Colin Watson took lead at the confrence though there currently
is no blueprint for it.

Yes. So the reason this has returned is we are now using Kernel
Mode Settings KMS. Brandon can you try booting the system with
nomodeset added to the kernel command line of the 9.10 kernel.
Let me know the results. Also tracking down a system with the AUO
panel to resolve

This driver is based on an older kernel. It's actually the
drivers/input/mouse dir with sentelic sentelic.h add. I'll take some time
and make patches for upstream. Things have changed now with 2.6.31, or at
least the way make files are done .. probably some other ps2mouse fixes.

Well during 8.04 Intel pushed heavily to have special compile flags
added just for new Atom based CPUs. This is what lpia is, it's x86 but
with some special instructions that where supposed to just be in Atom
based CPUs. This apparently did not pan out and the speed benefit was
not seen.

I'll have some info later. What I can say now is the same machine works
correctly with the Debian installer. It will install the PAE kernel
headers. Though Ubiquity will not. So the script (assuming D-I uses it)
may not be the issue.

The dmi-available-memory script is working fine. I've test it on Dell
systems.. as well as the test system I am using now (a Lenovo Thinkpad
T61). All report the available memory. The Dell systems only had 2 - 3
gigs of memory. So I have to use my Thinkpad T61 for testing.

Though on machines like the Inspiron 15n their appears to be an issue

For this one it's mainly going to be Desktop machines. Their are a few
laptops out their, though it also effects usb sound cards that can do
multi channel (guess some use those with laptops).
I believe pretty much any modern desktop today offers multichannel.

Oh to address your question more. Karmic is yes. Many of the machines
can support up to 6 outputs. Another things is some have reconfigurable
ports (the red port for recording, can be switched to a surround port at
times). They very. Most have dedicated ports for (3 ports for 6 speakers

You should bring it their way as this is a major functional bug. Basic use
case is users have no way to user their headsets to use voip applications.

In these cases the Connector tab isn't even shown to allow you to switch the
input. Though on others it is.

Sound
The issue here is that what your average user is exposed to is what is
in the gnome-volume-control.
If for some reason (what ever that reason is) someone or something
changes the alsamixers. Users will be changing the controls in the
gnome-volume-mixer and nothing will be happening to resolve
Here is a picture of what input tab in sound prefrences looks like on my
X301. Regardless of the profile I choose I get no Connetors box.

Ouch. So from a Canonical prospective this is bad. For the Dell XPS 13
we are actually under contract to enable it in the standard
distribution. One of those is microphone. So we have an issue for this
it even being certified for Karmic.

Just caught another issue. While the pae kernel is being installed. The
linux-headers-*-generic-pae are NOT being installed. The package is on
the DVD.
The linux-headers-*-generic are being installed should not be.
The issue here is dkms packages will fail to build without the proper
header
