I received this bug during a recent update and can replicate it by selecting the 'Using NVIDIA binary driver - version 331.38 from nvidia-331-updates (proprietary)' under the 'Additional Drivers' tab of 'Software Updates', and then hitting 'Apply Changes'. It seems to revert back to the Nouveau

Reinstalling the evolution-indicator package has not brought back the problem for me. It is possible that the initial removal of the 'evolution-indicator' package changed configuration in such a way as to correct the problem regardless of the evolution-indicator package's installation state.
